I’m a Big Winner!

logo

In exciting news, I just won $15,000 for an internet start-up I’ve been working on called Local Desk! My partner, Mariana Vasconcellos, and I came up with the concept for an entrepreneurial class we took at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. Media guru Jeff Jarvis teaches the class. He helped us out a ton with the project. He also kept me focused with his unrelenting energy.

Here’s the project’s elevator pitch: the Local Desk will be a platform for editors to assign stories locally to reporters and citizen journalists.

Here’s how it works: editors can post stories, which will display in real time in descending order. Reporters or citizen journalist can then answer the assignment post letting the editor know their ability to cover the story. Editors would then be able to verify the reporters through their profile page, which would include a resume, clips and reference. Journalists can also pitch stories, which editors, bloggers and community members can view.

We’re planning to start out in Brooklyn and expand from there.

I’ll keep you all posted on our progress!
